The Chinese Business Chamber of Canada (CBCC), the largest Chinese Business association in Canada with over 1,200 active members, and the Registered Immigration Consultants Association of Canada (RIC) representing over 200 consultants jointly held an "Immigration Consumer Protection Forum" and a news conference on August 26, 2006 at the Holiday Inn, 7095 Woodbine Ave. Toronto. Participants of the Forum passed a resolution to call on the government to take action to protect consumers in immigration consulting industry.
The CBCC/RIC believe that effective protection of consumers and successful regulation of immigration consultants and lawyers will need enactment by Parliament. The CBCC/RIC will support a regulatory regime that would aim at consumer protection and that is based on the principles in efficiency, fairness, inclusiveness, transparency and accountability.
