On January 26, 2012 Hon. Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board of Canada, visited the CBCC's office in Toronto for a Pre-Budget Round-Table Consultation meeting. Attending the meeting representing the CBCC were Leona Xing and Sunny Sheng, Vice Presidents, Benson Wong, Chair of the PR Committee, Spencer Chen, Chair of the Business Development Committee, Susan Li, Jeff Peng, Ken Guo, Tina Hong, members of the International Trade, and Sean Hu, Executive Director.
The CBCC representives had a good prepartion for the 4 questions proposed by the government as topics for the discussion. The main points submitted by the CBCC for the Budegt and next phase of Economic Action Plan can be summarized as follows:
1) Export should be part of the strategy for job creation and in its export strategy Canada should attach importance on the China market and Canada-China trade.
2) It is a good thing for Prime Minister Harper to visit China in February in an effort to export Canada's energy; however, the Prime Minister could have led more Canadian businesses to China to form Team Canada. The Team approach should continue as long as it works for Canada.
3) The immigrant communities in Canada have a lot of resources such as talants, funds, contacts in their home countries. The Government of Canada should develop policies to realize the full potential of these resources in its Economic Action Plan and in creating job.
